“Obvia” emerged through direct observation of geometric typefaces and an initial exploration of three width axes – Normal, Narrow Wide and Expanded – within each condensed typeface width axis: condensed Normal Wide Expanded. The purpose behind its creation was to break free from geometrically pure forms – specifically square geometric forms – by breaking up these straight axes using diagonals instead.
Details were then added, such as subtle inktraps, concave ends of stems and well drawn characters with an “anthropocentric” feel that give this font its unique appearance. The first Obvia family comes in 9 weights: Thin to Black that create a distinct typographic design from paper to pixels.
