It was originally created by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini in 2013 and further extended in 2015 with the help of Francesco Canovaro, though the decorative display weights were co-designed by Canovaro and condensed widths was developed by Andrea Tartarelli. In 2020 a full redesign of the typeface has been published: First, Mario De Libero helped Cocogoose Pro in obtaining new widths, weights, open type features, and characters.
Inspired by sign painting tradition of the informal lowbrow art movement, Cocogoose is based on the Geometric sans typeface skeletons with rounded edges and slight tweaks. Having a very low contrast, a dark hue, and a high x-height, it is a perfect workhorse for all designers in search of an optimal display font for logos, headlines, and retro-inspired branding.
The x-height of Cocogoose is really tall, which means that texts typeset in this typeface look very legible even if reduced to a small size, and the bold regular weight can contribute to optimal visibility in cases when used as a branding, signage or even playful typeface exclusively.
