It is a variant of a serif typeface and the design of these typeface originated in the 1750s by John Baskerville of Birmingham England with punches by John Handy. It is also ascertained that Baskerville is a transitional typeface implying it was originated from the old style types of the period most significantly the work of William Caslon.
For the earlier design used in Britain to the improved design done by Baskerville, the contrast ratio of the thickest line and the thinnest line was made wider, the shape and size of the structure was made more slender and sharp and the round part of the structure was relocated such that its basis line is more or less in the middle of the extended line.
