Arvo is a workhorse sans-serif typeface for screen and print. The family includes 4 cuts: Roman, Italic, Roman Bold, Bold Italic. It is a libre font which was first introduced in Google Fonts. The overall style of the font is somewhat inconsistent. It’s pretty monolinear, although not completely (it has a tiny bit of contrast which slightly improves the readability in Mac OS X).
The name Arvo is a genuine Estonian man’s name, but people do not use it often today. In the Finnish language, Arvo can be translated as “number, value, worth. ” This is all true as far as how much programming is in hinting.
Arvo 2 was launched in December 2013. 0. 1 was released, with support for the Cyrillic script, the latin script is extended to Adobe’s Glyph List 3, and many truetype hints are improved particularly for in smaller sizes (regular cuts begin now at 9ppem). Other changes included inclusion of PANOSE classification numbers, tidying character palette numbering and many other minor adjustments were made.
