Karma is an Open Source multi-script typeface, which contains both Devanagari and Latin script. The family was created for body text on screen and there is available five fonts. In both scripts the characters are constructed in a monolinear manner which is typical for the given style of construction. The Latin script component consists of serif letters. These, and the stroke terminals in the Devanagari letterforms are mainly rounded in the Karma design.
The width of Karma’s characters is economic and the x-height of the Latin is tall. Despite the fact that the terminals at the ends of the curves in the letterforms are tied in loose knots the general impression of the Devanagari character set is one of lightness and openness. Notice the shape of the ख (kha), the छ (cha) and the ध (dha), for instance.
Karma was created by Joana Correia for the Indian Type Foundry and the first fonts of the family were released in 2014.
