Bentham Font

Bentham font was created by referencing letters from nineteenth-century gravestones, maps and makers’ plates on cast-iron machinery. It contains smooth swooshes with calligraphic smooth curves; swelling curves; mannered clunkiness as well as wiggly ends to its characters – like genre may be found in the books of this period; it reappeared in the textbooks of this century and was also adopted for the computer science by Donald Knuth while designing the TEX typesetting system.

Bentham font is an intermedial design that bridges two styles from the 19th and 20th century typographies: those done in 1848-1859 as well as the letterforms done by stonecutters, cartographers or engraving artist in this modern age.
