Benton Modern Text was initially designed by Font Bureau for the Boston Globe and the Detroit Free Press. The design and proportions were borrowed from the turn-of-the-century Century Expanded of Morris Fuller Benton, which was drawn for ATF and was an epochal magazine and news text roman that revived the times.
The italic was created on the basis of Century Schoolbook. The new display cuttings were made by Dyana Weissman and Richard Lipton. Besides, Benton Modern is also advised for Newspaper, Magazine, Book and Corporate use.
