Louis Chevrolet, born in France and brought up in Canada before coming to Canada and then the US by way of Arthur as well as Gaston with their families, later worked for Morse Company before coming back together with Arthur as well as Gaston to Canada before eventually working at William Walter Plant in New York City as an extremely successful Swiss driver. Louis worked there between 1878-1892 before finally moving on his own in 1899 for William Walter Plant and working on vehicles there during WW II.
William C. Durant, founder of General Motors, became aware of him. Attracted by his driving ability and expertise, Durant hired him as the company driver.
Louis Chevrolet and William Durant collaborated to design a car reminiscent of French designs; they named it Chevrolet. By 1911, this classic six-cylinder car had entered US markets.
