Unlike the original Gentium experimental typeface there are more weights in the Gentium Book Basic typeface. The family has all the normal, thick, italic, and thick-italic font looks that are easily applicable.
Even more limited is a range of characters supported as part of the basic set as compared with the main Gentium Plus fonts. There are certain “Basic” fonts which support include only the ANSI, OEM and a number of other Latin characters together with extended Latin characters that are frequently used and certain other symbols, etc.
In particular these fonts do not have full extended Latin IPA set, a decent support for Central European languages, Greek, as well as Cyrillic. The Gentium Basic family is very similar but it is lessed than this font, that means it is lighter in weight.
