In 1931, Ferdinand Porsche founded Porsche in Stuttgart, which began designing and developing car engines, as well as providing engineering and consulting services, and in the early years, most of its customers were automotive companies such as Audi. Mercedes-Benz, Decavo, Opel, Wonder, Daimler-Benz, and Otto Union.
One of the first projects in which the newly established Porsche Company participated was a project called Volkswagen, which in the German language means people’s car. In the mid-1930s, Porsche, and specifically Ferdinand Porsche, were invited by the Nazi German government to design Volkswagen’s first car, the Volkswagen Beetle, now known as one of the most successful cars in automotive history.
