StadtMitte is an industrial font designed to have an urban edge. It was inspired by a reinterpretation of Berlin’s vernacular signage and characters created according to DIN 1451 standards in the early 1900s by sign makers and painters from Germany who started using this style for freight railway font drawings before spreading quickly across highway signs by 1936 when adopted as an industry standard.
Stadtmitte does not attempt to recreate these drawings exactly, but rather offers us a new set of concepts and forms which recall Germany’s industrial style of creating information displays and creating informational diagrams. As such, its applications span multiple design applications depending on its individual purpose and weight requirements.
This typeface offers eight weights ranging from “thin” and “black”, with two variations each: regular and italic. 16 files house 618 characters such as ligatures small caps alternates old-style numbers tabular numbers case sensitive figures etc spanning across 219 Latin-based languages spanning across 212 countries.
