Sugo Pro is a compressed geometric sans strong body, softly rounded corners, and street style no-nonsense approach. The powerful, tough design of Sugo suits it for sports branding and style editorials of street. The lighter weights are legible at small sizes, while the regular and bold weights are best used for titling, logo and headlines.
The author is Francesco Canovaro, and it was developed in 2006 in two weights (regular and extralight) and was used as a base model by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini for the design of the very successful typeface Zetafonts’ Cocogoose Pro. A complete redesign of the family was conducted by Andrea Tartarelli in 2018. The first part included enlarging the initial glyph set with cyrillic and greek, and three more weights with italics were added.
The re-vamped and updated version, called Sugo Pro Classic, also contains complete Open Type features which include positional figures, Alternated and Small Caps, and revives alternate glyph shapes that Canovaro created for the original Sugo, available as Stylistic Alternates.
A sister typeface Sugo Pro Display, uses these alternates as base glyphs and offers a closer kerning, perfect for display and logo design.
