Vollkorn Serif Font Family

Vollkorn was initially created as the first typeface by Friedrich Althausen. Originally released in 2005 under a Creative Commons license, it quickly became one of the most popular designs, being downloaded thousands of times and used in various web and print media projects.

It aims at being an unobtrusive, unpretentious, and well crafted text font for everyday use. Compared with many texts of the type of the Renaissance and up to now, it has thick and well-nourished serifs and vigorous and lively appearance. It can be employed in the text of an article, or it can be used for headlines and titles of articles.

Vollkorn is a German word which means, in fact, »wholemeal«, and it is based on the old German term for bread, Brotschrift. It was used for the sizes of all the letters for every day use in hand setting times.

As of May 2020, it was modified to be a Variable Font with a “Weight” axis in Roman and Italic.
